What is the PDPL ?
The Protection of Personal Data Protection (PDPL) is the major data protection and privacy regulation in the United Arab Emirates. The PDPL aims to promote the protection of personal information processed in the United Arab Emirates and gives rights to individuals regarding their personal information. The Data Office will be responsible for administering and enforcing the PDPL.
Similar to the GDPR the PDPL protects the data privacy of individuals and as such it contains a number of information privacy principles related to the processing of personal data of individuals. The PDPL applies to the processing of personal data of people residing in the UAE as well as businesses that process personal data inside the UAE, irrespective of whether the personal data they process is of individuals inside or outside the UAE.
