What is the Philippines Data Privacy Act ?

The Data Privacy Act of 2012 is the major data protection and privacy regulation in Philippines. The Data Privacy Act aims to promote the protection of personal information processed in Philippines and gives rights to individuals regarding their personal information. The National Privacy Commission is the data privacy authority in Philippines. 

The Data Privacy Act protects the data privacy of individuals and as such it contains a number of provisions related to the processing of personal data of individuals. This Act applies to the processing of all types of personal information and to any natural and juridical person involved in personal information processing including those personal information controllers and processors who, although not located or established in the Philippines, use equipment that are located in the Philippines. The right to privacy is a recognized right of the Constitution of Philippines and therefore, is of fundamental value.
