What is Hungary’s Privacy Act ?

The Privacy Act 2011 is the Hungarian data protection and privacy regulation. This law supplements the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and tailors its provisions to the particular national context. The National Authority for Data Protection and Freedom of Information is responsible for monitoring and ensuring the enforcement of two fundamental rights, the right to the protection of personal data and the right to freedom of information in Hungary.

The Privacy Act protects the data privacy of individuals and as such it contains a number of provisions and requirements related to the processing of personal data of individuals. In Hungary, the right to privacy includes data privacy, which is a recognized human right and is part of the national Constitution and therefore, is of fundamental value.
