What is Portugal’s Data Protection Act ?
The Portuguese Data Protection Act (law no. 58/2019) is the Portuguese data protection and privacy regulation. The Act supplements the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and tailors its provisions to the particular national context. The “Comissão Nacional de Protecção de Dados” is the national data protection authority for Portugal.
The Act protects the data privacy of individuals and as such it contains a number of provisions and requirements related to the processing of personal data of individuals. In Portugal, the right to privacy includes data privacy, which is a recognized human right and is part of the national Constitution and therefore, is of fundamental value.
