What is the ISO 31000 ?

ISO 31000 is an international risk management standard. The standard was published by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) in 2018. 

ISO is an independent, non-governmental international organization with a membership of 165 national standards bodies. Through its members, it brings together experts to share knowledge and develop voluntary, consensus-based, market relevant international standards that support innovation and provide solutions to global challenges. 

ISO 31000 provides principles, a framework and a process for managing risk. It can be used by any organization regardless of its size, activity or sector. The aim of ISO 31000 is to help organizations increase the likelihood of achieving objectives, improve the identification of opportunities and threats and effectively allocate and use resources for risk treatment. While ISO 31000 cannot be used for certification purposes, it provides guidance for internal or external audit programmes.
